Frequently Asked Questions

Who Can Benefit From Herbs?

Herbs are for everyone!  Herbs are a subset of vegetables and typically have more intense and concentrated flavor.  From a botanical view, herbs are specifically categorized as plants which are healing remedies.  Traditionally, herbal remedies have included various parts of plants such as the root, bark, stem, leaf, flower or berry.   Full of beneficial phytochemicals, aromatic oils, vitamins and minerals, herbs have historically been used to aid digestion, lessen the severity of colds and fevers, calm the mind, strengthen the heart and ease body aches and pains, to name a few.

Herbs are available without prescription and our ancestors were knowledgeable of how to forage, cultivate and preserve herbs for medicinal use.  Many of us enjoy planting a summer garden which may include culinary herbs such as parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. Without even realizing it, we have already been benefiting from herbs.  Amazingly, these common culinary herbs have a rich traditional usage as healing medicines!

Are Herbs Safe?

Herbs have been consumed safely for thousands of years.  Medical research and herbal tradition, both demonstrate that most common herbs have an exceptional safety record.  Instances of herb/drug interactions are also very rare.  Additionally, although allergic reactions are rare, some individuals may be sensitive or allergic to certain plants.  Even so, adverse reactions can occur with any substance taken into the body.

Can An Herbalist Replace My Doctor?

Definitely not!  An herbalist is an unlicensed community practitioner, not a physician, and therefore cannot diagnose or treat disease, or prescribe drugs.  Herbal consultation is not a substitute for regular medical care but can offer guidance and information to better understand and heal yourself.

What Are Your Qualifications?

BSN, Georgetown University (1993). Registered Nurse, Massachusetts (1993-Present). Herbalism Certification, School of Christian Herbalism (2022).

What Can You Offer Me?

As a community herbalist, I guide, encourage, and educate using a wholistic model.  God made us body, mind and spirit and as triadic creatures, we are most vital when those three aspects are in balance.  Imbalances in body, thinking, emotions and in relationships can cause dis-ease and pain.  Herbs can play an important role, along with lifestyle changes, in gently encouraging the body back into balance.

Do You Sell Herbs?

I grow herbs and have created a variety of loose tea blends which benefit body, mind and spirit.  These herbal teas are sold from my website.

I do not sell tinctures or capsules, but will recommend reputable herbal products which can be found online or preferably at a local natural food or herbal shop.
